Since the 1990s, we've witnessed a triple crisis that has eroded its foundations, demanding a profound re-evaluation of its purpose and essential role in contemporary society. At Appleton Private University, we not only diagnose this crisis but position ourselves as an active response to its challenges.

Addressing Higher Education's Triple Crossroads

First, we observe a crisis of hegemony. The monopoly on research, once the exclusive domain of the university, is now shared with vast transnational corporations that compete in the development of knowledge and innovation. This compels us to collaborate and redefine our distinctive value in an increasingly globalized and diversified knowledge ecosystem.

Second, we confront a crisis of legitimacy. Public perception of the university has changed; from being a motor for social mobility, it's often seen as an institution that restricts access to the most disadvantaged and has become excessively hierarchical. This view drives us to dismantle barriers and reaffirm education's social commitment.

Finally, the institutional crisis manifests in the constant tension between university autonomy and market pressures. The tendency to view education, both public and private, through a purely business lens threatens to distort its essence. 3. Strengthen comprehensive student support programs (beyond tuition, which is already free), including scholarships for materials, transportation, or living expenses, allowing students from low-income backgrounds to dedicate themselves fully to their studies.
4. Optimize expense management through national, regional, and international cooperation, maximizing every available resource.
5. Reduce poverty not only by training professionals but by building capacities within our universities to research and implement direct social impact programs.
6. Those who directly benefit from higher education through the hiring of our graduates – businesses, NGOs, international organizations, and the State itself – must actively contribute to our funding. It's a virtuous cycle of investment and social return.
7. Although we are a private entity, we believe that the largest source of funding for the education system as a whole, including support for free initiatives, must be the State. Its investment is the cornerstone of equity.
