Como Rector de la Appleton Private University, me dirijo hoy a vosotros con una profunda reflexión sobre un valor que a menudo se nos escurre entre los dedos, un bien precioso cuya verdadera magnitud a veces olvidamos: el tiempo. Los que me conocen, saben que no soporto la impuntualidad, y que valoro el tiempo de los demás, pero especialmente el mío; es una forma de perder vida, si calculáramos, todos los minutos "esperando" en un año, realmente nos asustataríamos. En Appleton, hemos decidido colocar este tesoro en el centro de una iniciativa transformadora: el Appleton Time Bank, donde el tiempo se convierte en la base de nuestro valor real, los Time Bank Credits (TBC).

En un mundo donde las transacciones económicas tradicionales a menudo generan barreras y desigualdades, el Appleton Time Bank emerge como un faro de equidad y colaboración. Los TBC no son una moneda cualquiera; representan el esfuerzo tangible, la dedicación invertida en proyectos de valor social. Al adoptar este sistema, buscamos inculcar en nuestros estudiantes una comprensión profunda del valor intrínseco del trabajo, tanto propio como ajeno.

Imaginemos a un estudiante inmerso en un máster de 10 créditos. Bajo el paradigma tradicional, esto se traduciría en una deuda económica. Sin embargo, en el ecosistema del Appleton Time Bank, esa inversión académica se refleja en una "deuda" de 10 TBC, una obligación que se salda con la contribución activa a nuestra comunidad.

Consideremos ahora a ese mismo estudiante, cuyo máster se centra en la fascinante disciplina de la psicología. A través de su participación voluntaria en una ONG, dedicando 10 horas a escuchar y aplicar los conocimientos adquiridos en sus estudios, ese estudiante habrá "pagado" su deuda de 10 TBC. Este acto no solo libera una carga financiera, sino que también infunde un profundo sentido de logro y orgullo. No se trata de recibir algo gratuitamente, sino de ser becado por el propio esfuerzo, por la dedicación al servicio de los demás.

Those who know me are aware that I cannot stand tardiness, and that I value the time of others, but especially my own; it's a way of losing life. If we were to calculate all the minutes lost in a year, we would truly be frightened. At Appleton, we have decided to place this treasure at the heart of a transformative initiative: the Appleton Time Bank, where time becomes the foundation of our real value, Time Bank Credits (TBC).

In a world where traditional economic transactions often create barriers and inequalities, the Appleton Time Bank emerges as a beacon of equity and collaboration. TBCs are not just any currency; they represent tangible effort, the dedication invested in social value projects. By adopting this system, we seek to instill in our students a deep understanding of the intrinsic value of work, both their own and that of others.

Imagine a student immersed in a 10-credit master's program. Under the traditional paradigm, this would translate into an economic debt. Through their voluntary participation in an NGO, dedicating 10 hours to listening and applying the knowledge acquired in their studies, that student will have "paid" their debt of 10 TBCs.
