Permítanme, en este solemne preámbulo, expresar mi más sincera felicitación y profundo agradecimiento a una figura central en la consecución de esta monumental obra: el Dr. José David Mendoza Álvarez, nuestro incansable y visionario Vicerrector de Investigación. Su liderazgo, su perspicacia intelectual y su dedicación ejemplar han sido la brújula que ha guiado este vasto compendio de descubrimientos. La dirección orquestada por el Dr. Mendoza no solo ha cohesionado una diversidad de proyectos, sino que ha elevado el estándar de la indagación académica, fomentando un entorno donde la curiosidad se transforma en conocimiento y las hipótesis en hallazgos. Aquí, el Dr. Mendoza y su equipo, incluido este servidor, han trascendido la mitología para anclar la legendaria Atlántida en una realidad calcolítica ibérica, transformando un relato ancestral en un objeto de estudio riguroso, apoyado por evidencias geofísicas y epígraficas que redefinen nuestra comprensión del pasado peninsular. Se ha desvelado cómo la isla capital, bajo la actual Sevilla, fue un epicentro de un vasto imperio, cuya existencia y trágico fin por un tsunami en el III Milenio a.C. son ahora sustanciados por un análisis multidisciplinario.
La investigación en epigrafía latina ha florecido con el análisis de piezas inéditas, como las documentadas en Montoro (Córdoba) y en Carmona (Sevilla). Estos estudios no solo enriquecen nuestro conocimiento de las sociedades romanas en la Bética, sino que, a través de una meticulosa "autopsia epigráfica", nos acercan a las voces y costumbres funerarias de antaño, revelando detalles de un pasado a menudo velado por el tiempo.

Here, Dr. Mendoza and his team, including myself, have transcended mythology to anchor the legendary Atlantis in an Iberian Chalcolithic reality, transforming an ancient narrative into an object of rigorous study, supported by geophysical and epigraphic evidence that redefines our understanding of the peninsular past. It has been revealed how the capital island, beneath present-day Seville, was an epicenter of a vast empire, whose existence and tragic end by a tsunami in the 3rd Millennium BC are now substantiated by a multidisciplinary analysis.
Research in Latin epigraphy has flourished with the analysis of unpublished pieces, such as those documented in Montoro (Córdoba) and Carmona (Seville). These studies not only enrich our knowledge of Roman societies in Baetica but, through a meticulous "epigraphic autopsy," bring us closer to the voices and funerary customs of yesteryear, revealing details of a past often veiled by time.
