La sensibilidad y la autenticidad encontraron su recompensa en la primera edición del I Festival Internacional de Cortos Paradox Film con el reconocimiento a "Mi Isla", un cortometraje documental dirigido por Juan Alonso Paytubí. Esta pieza cinematográfica, que sumerge al espectador en el día a día de una mujer entrañable, resonó profundamente por su honestidad y su conmovedora exploración de la soledad y la conexión con el hogar.
Juan Alonso Paytubí, residente en Las Palmas de Gran Canaria durante más de dieciocho años, forjó su camino en el mundo audiovisual tras graduarse en Realización de Producciones Audiovisuales y Espectáculos en el IES Felo Monzón Grau Bassas de su ciudad. Su interés por la narrativa cinematográfica se sembró previamente en Madrid, donde realizó diversos cursos de escritura de guion de cine a través de la Fundación Autor y la SGAE, su lugar de origen.
Su formación se extendió a Valencia, donde se especializó como operador de cámara a través de la Fundación Pascual Tomás. Este conocimiento técnico le abrió las puertas para trabajar en diversas productoras canarias a su llegada a Las Palmas, incluyendo nombres como “Maldito Rodriguez”, “Producciones Stratford” y “Producciones 3000”.
Tras completar sus estudios superiores, Paytubí ha continuado nutriendo su pasión por contar historias, materializando diversas producciones. Entre ellas destacan el cortometraje de ficción “Una Situación Incómoda”; “24/7/40”, un proyecto creativo surgido durante el confinamiento; “Hermano Uno Cero Uno”, realizado para el Festivalito de La Palma y que alcanzó la final en la edición de 2020; y “Carbono”, cortometraje que se alzó con el premio en el FICMEC de Tenerife del mismo año.
Su versatilidad creativa también se ha manifestado en la realización de videoclips, colaborando con el grupo de Rap Katarsis en su tema “Bandidos del Kalasnicov” y con la banda de Metal Canario Underground Kombustible en su canción “Vendetta”.
Con "Mi Isla", Juan Alonso Paytubí se adentra en el género documental con una propuesta íntima y personal. El cortometraje ofrece una ventana privilegiada a la vida cotidiana de Marisa, una mujer de 83 años que comparte, en primera persona y a modo de entrevista, sus dolencias, sus peculiaridades, sus rutinas y sus arraigadas costumbres. La pieza central de este relato es su elección de vivir en soledad, una decisión que lejos de evocar tristeza, se presenta como una fuente de disfrute, rodeada de lo que ella define con cariño como su isla, su hogar.
La sensibilidad con la que Paytubí aborda la historia de Marisa permite al espectador conectar profundamente con su universo, apreciando la belleza de la cotidianidad y la dignidad de la independencia en la vejez. Sensitivity and authenticity found their reward at the first edition of the Paradox Film International Short Film Festival with the recognition of "Mi Isla" (My Island), a documentary short film directed by Juan Alonso Paytubí. This cinematic piece, which immerses the viewer in the daily life of an endearing woman, resonated deeply for its honesty and its moving exploration of solitude and the connection with home.
Juan Alonso Paytubí, a resident of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for over eighteen years, forged his path in the audiovisual world after graduating in Audiovisual Production and Entertainment from the IES Felo Monzón Grau Bassas in his city. His interest in cinematic narrative was previously sown in Madrid, where he took several screenwriting courses through the Fundación Autor and the SGAE, his place of origin.
His training extended to Valencia, where he specialized as a camera operator through the Fundación Pascual Tomás. This technical knowledge opened doors for him to work in various Canarian production companies upon his arrival in Las Palmas, including names like “Maldito Rodriguez”, “Producciones Stratford”, and “Producciones 3000”.
After completing his higher education, Paytubí has continued to nurture his passion for storytelling, materializing various productions. Among them, the fiction short film “Una Situación Incómoda” (An Awkward Situation) stands out; “24/7/40”, a creative project that emerged during the lockdown; “Hermano Uno Cero Uno” (Brother One Zero One), made for the Festivalito de La Palma and which reached the final in the 2020 edition; and “Carbono” (Carbon), a short film that won the FICMEC of Tenerife in the same year.
His creative versatility has also manifested in the creation of music videos, collaborating with the Rap group Katarsis on their track “Bandidos del Kalasnicov” (Kalasnicov Bandits) and with the Canarian Underground Metal band Kombustible on their song “Vendetta”.
With "Mi Isla" (My Island), Juan Alonso Paytubí delves into the documentary genre with an intimate and personal proposal. The short film offers a privileged glimpse into the daily life of Marisa, an 83-year-old woman who shares, in the first person and in the form of an interview, her ailments, her peculiarities, her routines, and her deeply rooted customs. The centerpiece of this story is her choice to live in solitude, a decision that far from evoking sadness, is presented as a source of enjoyment, surrounded by what she affectionately defines as her island, her home.
The sensitivity with which Paytubí approaches Marisa's story allows the viewer to connect deeply with her universe, appreciating the beauty of everyday life and the dignity of independence in old age.
